Easter | 2014

It's Spring again in Florida-- and everywhere else for that matter. Not that the weather makes any type of grand gesture of kindness like our experiences in the Midwest., but the weather is definitely warming up-- by Florida standards anyway.
On a side note, I could definitely get used to Florida winters. Perfection!

It's almost Easter time. And right now, I'm loving the age difference in our two little munchkins... A year of firsts for Lucas, and for Brynn, a whole new enthusiasm and thrill for each magical holiday.

A little voice just keeps reminding me that this is only the beginning of our adventure as parents with these two babes. The holidays are definitely one of the major perks to that job. With that being said, I couldn't resist grabbing His and Hers bunny ears in the dollar section at Target a few days ago, mostly with this little scene in mind.

I hope you all have a very happy Easter! We are heading to Indiana for a few days to celebrate Lucas' baptism with our family over Easter weekend. His sweet little romper arrived in the mail yesterday, and I am so excited for him to wear it. :)

We mustache you a question...

Yes, as cliche as it might sound... We mustache you a question.

WILL YOU BE OUR VALENTINE?

soooo, painting a mustache on a 3 month-old definitely wasn't an easy task.
when he wasn't trying to eat the brush, he was pretty much in constant motion... it took a few tries. ;)

pucker up!

happy valentine's day

Our Brynnie Ballerina

For our family and friends, and most of those who follow us on Instagram, it may not be a surprise to hear about Brynn's new obsession with ballet. She has become quite the little quasi-ballerina. I say "quasi" because we're still lacking formal training, and she pretty much just makes up her own interpretive routines from what she sees on film... Which usually results in one of those adorable, melt-my-heart, tears-forming-in-the-eyes moments for me.

As a mother, it's just so amazing to realize that we are spending our days listening to Tchaikovsky's ballets-- twenty-four/seven (she literally falls asleep to them at night), and hearing her plead and beg for me to put down the laundry- or her little brother- to dance with her. "Dance with me, Mommy! Let's dance like ballerinas!"

Yes, even when asked what she wants to be when she grows up... The answer is, "A ballerina."

How does a three year-old find this much passion for one, single activity? Where did this even come from? I mean, I'm not a dancer... No one in either of our families are dancers, either. I guess I will never be able to really answer that... Maybe one day I will look back and say that she was born to do it. I do remember watching her reaction to the first time she saw a ballet performance. Coincidentally, it was starring the Sugar Plum Fairy. She was mesmerized. And I honestly cannot wait until we tell her that she is going to be starting dance classes this Fall, as her 4th birthday gift.

Until then, we will be enjoying all of the impromptu performances, our endless twirling sessions, and the sounds of classical ballets throughout our house. We've already memorized most of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, so I'm hoping to venture into some new ballets soon. Thank goodness for YouTube. :)

I honestly hope that I never forget our dancing days, especially if she loses interest in the next few years. Watching your child have a passion for something is truly such a moving experience for a parent. To see what she is capable of will never surprise me... I love when she asks me, "Mommy, can I be a ballerina?" My favorite part of that question is the answer.

You can be whatever you want to be, Brynn. You are a smart and talented little girl. Whatever your dreams may be, or whatever you choose to do, I know you have the passion to make it happen... We love you so much, sweet girl.

Halloween - Florida-Style + The Beginning of Lucas' Birth Story...

I realize that the title of this post is very interesting, but the truth is that we can't really tell the story of Brynn's 1st Florida Halloween without starting L's Birth Story...

Needless to say, Halloween was quite a chaotic time for us... So, you'll have to forgive the fact that this post is overdue by more than a month. The facts are that it was the same day as my last prenatal appointment, I went into labor late that evening, and we were in the hospital the next morning welcoming Lucas into our family... But we still managed to rock out some trick-or-treating!

With all of that craziness going on, I completely forgot about these photos until I printed some photos off for Grammy to take home to family members. I definitely wanted to share Brynn's first Florida Halloween experience... For starters, she could have worn whatever costume her heart desired this year because it was in the low 80s, which I totally loved!! We definitely weren't running around freezing our toes off this year, trying to give her the Halloween experience that we wanted her to have... She wanted to be a "princess" this year, so we went with Cinderella, because I had the perfect dress for the costume. Thank goodness that Grammy is such a hoarder, because this dress was quite the hit! It was a dress that I wore as a flower girl almost 30 years ago, so we were pretty sure no one would have the same costume as our girl... We got plenty of points on originality and cuteness!

Here is the breakdown of our evening, which happened to be Brynn's last evening, and also last holiday, as an only child.

Meet Cinderella Brynn.

That morning, we had what would be our last prenatal appointment, and I had promised all of the girls in the office that I would bring Brynn in her Halloween costume... The girls just love how "social" (i.e. extremely loud and full of really intrusive questions) she is with them when we are there, so they loved to oooooh and ahhhhh over her being all dressed up, and Brynn was flaunting it the entire time we were there... ("See my glass slippers?" "I'm soooo beautiful." and "Fank you, I know..." were all said very frequently. I learned that my child is not of the modest variety...)

under her own "sleeping spell"... if only she could do that during nap time.

the sleeping spell didn't last long... she was up and running in no time!

At the appointment, I was more than a little surprised when the NP decided to strip my membranes while doing my "check", without any warning or consultation... Little did I know, that would be quite fateful in how the next 24 hours unfolded.

That evening, we planned out which houses we wanted to hit up in our neighborhood, and got everything ready for the kiddos that would show up at our door... Brynn was more than ready to start the festivities. I was in almost-constant pain from the earlier experience at our appointment, but I was not about to admit that to anyone... Especially myself. So, I put on my brave face and we went out trick or treating with our girl.

In true "Brynn" fashion, she insisted on knocking on every door (even after we rang the doorbell... she's a little persistent when it comes to people handing over candy without a fight), and she tried to walk into everyone's house again this year...Gah! I have no idea how to cure her of this habit...

officially, the last bump photo... at this point, I was having mild, irregular contractions.

The rest of the evening, I was pretty much lying on the couch in an uncomfortable state... And Allen and Brynn took care of all of the Halloweeners that rang the doorbell. Brynn was in paradise, with kiddos in costumes ringing our doorbell all night... She probably would have chased every one of them back to the sidewalk if we had let her! :) Such a social butterfly we have...

... and that was basically our Halloween! Stay tuned for more of Lucas' Birth Story...

LUCAS' BIRTH VIDEO

Almost two weeks later, I finally managed to tinker with the video footage and photos from the hospital long enough to put together a little "birth video" for L... let's just say that I took advantage of some of my "nursing time" while in front of the computer.

I fully intended to include more information about L's birth in this post, but with both kiddos sleeping right now, I decided that resting on the couch is probably in my best interest. :)

Stay tuned at the end for a little sneak peak of Big Sis (our little comedienne) when we brought Little L home...

HERE WE GROW AGAIN || 37 Weeks

How far along? 37 Weeks. Baby L is about the size of a large WATERMELON.
Maternity clothes? Absolutely.
Stretch marks? Not yet.
Sleep: Insomnia has definitely set in. We usually have a Mommy & Me party from 2am - 4am.
Best moment this week: Finding a little time to relax (thanks to my amazing Hubby), and getting all of the little details together that I have been waiting and dying to do... Like packing our hospital bags, setting up the bassinet in our room, washing his little clothes and bedding, and setting up all of the final details... It's finally TIME!
Miss Anything? Being able to keep up with Big Sis in all her glory. And I'm totally ready for that celebratory drink...
Movement: Nonstop! He is constantly rolling and throwing his little elbows out on my sides. And he goes on an unmistakable 15-20 minute head-butting tirade at least once every day... and also in the middle of the night. It seriously feels like he's about to make a prison break!
Food cravings: Ice water and pumpkin and cinnamon anything. I'm having Midwest Fall-withdrawal, but this Florida weather is also so nice... I can't wait to walk with the kiddos when it really starts to cool down!
Anything making you queasy or sick: No.
Gender: B-O-Y
Labor Signs: Contractions, etc.. Dr. Borodo said at my check-up that he is head down (which I already knew thanks to the feet in my ribs and the daily head-butting), I'm also 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. I didn't progress into dilation or effacement until I was at least 38 weeks with Brynn, so he is already ahead of Big Sister's curve.
Symptoms: The swelling comes and goes. I'm also having a lot of headaches, which I don't remember having with Brynn.
Belly Button in or out? Still on the verge of popping...
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Mood: Extremely fat, and anxious to meet our little man!
Looking forward to: Our next progress check is Thursday, October 17th. Also, excited to get a haircut and maybe a pedicure before D-Day comes.

Pregnancy Comparison: 37 Weeks with Brynn

I thought we would go ahead and get the Halloween photos out of the way, since we have no idea what the holiday will have in store for us... Brynn is actually going as Cinderella this year, but her costume is reserved for the big night. When I proposed taking photos with Mommy as a kitty cat, she was definitely all about it, as per usual... Sister loves her cats!

Oh, she knows just how to melt me...

Baby brother, you are officially cleared for takeoff...

We are definitely so excited that we could become a family of four at any moment in the next 3 weeks... Big Sis is ready, Mommy is ready, and Daddy is beyond thrilled to meet our little man!

We just can't wait to smother you with kisses, Baby Lucas! Happy 37 Weeks!

Here We Grow Again || 35 Weeks

How far along? 35 Weeks. Baby L is about the size of a large CANTALOUPE.
Maternity clothes? Absolutely.
Stretch marks? Nothing yet, thankfully...
Sleep: Between the potty-training and the pregnancy, I get a little... It gets the job done. ;)
Best moment this week: Spending time with my mom. Washing a lot of blue, teeny-tiny baby clothes! Celebrating Big Sis and her 3rd birthday, and hearing her tell me, "Whoa, Mommy! You got a big 'ol belly!"
Miss Anything? Being that I've been so focused on effectively potty-training these past two weeks, I have really missed being able to bend down comfortably and keep my balance. Luckily, our independent girl prefers to do most of the work anyway! :)
Movement: SO much, it's almost concerning... In the past week, he has been pushing his way around so forcefully, I was absolutely terrified that he was going to break my water. Like, I could seriously feel my sac bulging! I know that's incredibly disgusting, but it's the only way I can appropriately describe it... I distinctly remember that feeling from when I was laboring with Brynn, so once you know what it feels like, it's difficult to forget! I don't remember any of that with Brynn, so my prediction that he is going to be a bruiser might be dead on...
Food cravings: Ice water and fruit.
Anything making you queasy or sick: No.
Gender: B-O-Y
Labor Signs: Contractions occasionally. Luckily, they have tapered off a little compared to last week. I was thisclose to calling the on-call OB and heading to the hospital last week because I was having so many, and I just didn't feel right... I think it had a lot to do with the stresses of potty-training my little rebel! The first two days were practically guerrilla warfare, which probably did nothing to help me relax long enough to keep the contractions at bay...
Symptoms: Swelling galore! I was so proud to tell my OB two weeks ago that I had not had a lot of significant swelling yet... Only to get smacked with a puffy face and itchy feet and hands all this past week! The plus side? My lips look like Angelina Jolie's...
Belly Button in or out? In-ish. It's starting to POP, believe it or not!
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Mood: Extremely fat and happy!
Looking forward to: Getting my very first "progress check" in the next few weeks... I will be surprised, with all of the intense symptoms I've been having, if I'm not showing some signs of progression. I never felt any of this with Brynn, so I think we'll be welcoming another October baby!

Pregnancy Comparison: 35 Weeks with Brynn

2010

After the big 3rd birthday celebration this week, Brynn decided to "decorate" Baby Lucas with some of her new stickers... She didn't hold anything back, so Mommy's belly was covered with Hello Kitty! She had so much fun placing stickers, and then peeling them off and sticking them in a different place... I just kept thinking to myself, "Oh, Lucas, you are never going to be bored with a big sister like this one..."

We've had a few busy weeks with Big Sis... She is officially potty-trained, even though we're still having a few issues at night. The first two days of this venture were quite dramatic... It was a battle of the wills. Mommy vs. Brynn. Straight-up guerrilla warfare. But on the third day, she woke up dry and decided that she really could be a big girl! I think she just needed to find a little confidence within herself before she realized that living in a diaper isn't really all that great! I know that I heard the phrase, "But I don't want to be a big girl!" come out of her mouth one too many times... I know that I was a little too hard on myself too, especially since I just assumed that my child would be like all of the other success stories I hear about... You know, the ones who just decide to go on their own after so long. Yeah... Not my kid. I should have known that- realistically- she just wasn't going to be told what to do and how to do it, nor was she going to go it alone. No matter how much fun I tried to make it, or what fabulous reward I offered... She is the ultimate independent girl, so I should have expected a little bit of resistance! She definitely needed a little "nudge" in the right direction... I really do love her for that, though. She doesn't make anything "easy" on me, but it forces me to find new ways to approach issues, and I feel like such a better Mom because of that. I do hope that Lucas will be just a little more easygoing, though. ;) Hey, a momma can dream, right?!

Our next appointment is on Thursday, October 10th. I will be 36 + 4, so it will be great to learn a little more about when our little man will be joining us!

And after a fabulous week, we took Grammy to the airport this afternoon... We miss you already, Grammy!! LOVE YOU SO MUCH!

Here We Grow Again || 32 Weeks

How far along? 32 Weeks. Baby L is about the size of a PINEAPPLE.
Maternity clothes? Absolutely! Still mixing some old stuff in there, but it's mostly lounge wear or dresses.
Stretch marks? None yet... Crossing my fingers, because Baby L is getting bigger every day!
Sleep: Hanging in there with a few hours every night.
Best moment(s) this week:  Having our 6th anniversary as our very first solo "date night" since we moved from Indiana. Also, spending time with Uncle "Mick", Aunt Roz, and Amelia last weekend... And then Grandma and Grandpa Weinzapfel, Aunt Katie, and Sam this weekend, while they all visited us from out of town! :)
Miss Anything? Not really.
Movement: Still enjoying lots of rolls and wiggles... He already feels bigger than Brynn ever was, and he still has 8 more weeks of "baking" to go!
Food cravings: Lots of fruit!
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not recently.
Gender: BOY
Labor Signs: The CONTRACTIONS have officially started, and they are pretty intense, and a little unnerving sometimes... I usually have to lay down and relax for awhile before they finally settle down. I hardly had any (noticeable) contractions with Brynn before I went into labor, so it scares me when I have more than two in an hour.
Symptoms: I feel soooo swollen, but nothing too significant.
Belly Button in or out?  In, but it's showing signs of potential to pop this time!
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Mood: Excited and anxious to get closer to term, so we can meet this little guy!
Looking forward to: Grammy coming to visit in the next few weeks... Brynn turning 3... My 31st birthday... Working on the nursery. Lots of things going on in the next month!

Pregnancy Comparison: 33 Weeks with Brynn

And if I could tell my former-pregnant self anything, it would be... "Girl, go put some makeup on yourself!"

Big Sis and I have been sick all week,
and we're still trying to nurse ourselves through this yucky cough and congestion...
I'm really crossing our fingers that we don't have to hit up the pediatrician in the next few days!

It's also officially football season, and for some reason, that's making me all excited and giddy...
Which is NOT usually in my character,
so I'm chalking it up to the testosterone that must be coming from Baby Lucas! ;)
If there is one thing that I'm sure of, it's that L will be his father's son... That has to be one of the things that makes me the most excited and anxious to meet him!

Our next baby appointment is on Tuesday (which possibly might be rescheduled), and I'm very ready to hear the sweet sound of Baby L's heartbeat again...

:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:

For our 6th anniversary, Grandma and Grandpa Weinzapfel, Aunt Kate and Sam all watched our girl while we enjoyed our very first date night in Florida! We made reservations at Salt Rock Grill in Indian Shores, and even got a little crazy and went for a walk on the beach at sunset... It was beautiful. It was perfect. And it made me even more grateful for the life I share with my amazing husband! Happy 6th Anniversary, babe! I love you more every single day...
