Derby Days 2012

We had such a blast at the 2nd Annual Derby Days this year!
It was so much fun to celebrate a tradition that has been in the Wilson family for as long as I can remember... My grandparents used to host their Derby parties at the house where we live now. So many fun memories... And now we get to keep making them! :)

{an attempted family "hat" photo}

The Kentucky Derby is definitely rich with traditions... One of them being, of course, the famous mint julep. The recipe we use is as follows.

Mint Julep:
Crush sprigs of fresh Kentucky Colonel Mint in your glass
Add desired amount of ice
Add desired amount of Bourbon
Pour desired amount of fresh lemonade over to drink
yummy!

B loved her festive hat and her "horse" shirt :)

 PawPaw always enjoys displaying our family photo with legendary racehorse Secretariat.

{playing with her beloved Yay-Yay and Uncle Aaron}
 We were all so happy when the Derby Princess, Arianna, arrived with her mommy and daddy :)

...Then it was time to start the betting!

 Arianna enjoyed a nap before the race started, unlike her cousin, B, who was taking advantage of running around like a crazy toddler ;)

Congrats to those people who placed bets on I'll Have Another

I hope you all had a fabulous Cinco de Mayo, Derby Days, or whatever activities you were able to enjoy this weekend!! :)

Little Moments Like This

19 Months... Is that even possible?

B is 19 months old today! Can you believe it?
To put things into perspective, this time last year, B was barely crawling...
And she had only just begun to eat finger foods.

 {Gearing up for your first Kentucky Derby party last year at 7 months-old...
We are so excited for this weekend!}

It's just amazing how much things have changed in a year.

Brynn, this age is entirely too much fun! I only wish that I could stop to enjoy each and every moment, and show you just how proud I am to be your mommy. You are such a happy and generous little person... I love how eager you are to give your love and affection to others. You absolutely adore other children... It's so sweet to watch you interact with a new acquaintance like they are your long-lost best friend! It melts Mommy's heart...

THINGS THAT YOU LOVE:
cats
dogs aka "pup-pups"
jewelry, especially bracelets and necklaces
flowers
 balloons
helping Mommy and Daddy do chores
laughing
running
Miles-Man
blowing bubbles
crackers
your Melissa & Doug animal magnets {1/2 of which are currently MIA}
your thumb and blankies
horses

"Catch me if you can, Momma!"

This definitely wasn't the most cooperative photo shoot we've had thus far... I got a few good smiles, but reality looked more like this

B's OUTTAKES:

"I need sparkling water..."

"I'm sorry... You want me to do WHAT?"

"Check it out, Mom! I can totally climb up and stick my whole arm in this pool while you're trying to get a good shot... Now, I'm soaked! Isn't it GREAT?!"

Happy 19 Months, Brynn!

We love you more every. single. day.

Derby Days 2011

Keeping with tradition, my parents hosted a Derby Days party just like my grandparents used to host at our house when I was a little girl...
Of course, with all of the flooding issues and the fact that their basement is practically a swimming pool, they just had our family this year! We like to think of it as a trial run...
But we had so much fun with our big hats, Mint Juleps, and betting boards!

Next year, I will take more photos...
This year, I was too busy enjoying the Mint Juleps and family fun!

On a side note, Happy Mother's Day to all of you mothers out there!
God has blessed us with an incredible gift in our Brynn Roslyn, and I will be forever grateful...

Here's a little glimpse of my present from Brynn & Daddy... :)
