LUCAS | DIG & DUMP 2nd BIRTHDAY PARTY

We decided to have Luc's birthday party a few weeks early while we were at the beach, and we all had so much fun! Luc is well into the "construction phase" --  diggers, dump trucks, cement mixers, tractors, and the whole shebang, so it was a pretty easy to throw a very simple party that we knew he would love...

Of course, I had the best party planner around to help me decorate and prepare everything for her baby brother. She was so excited to help, and insisted on doing most of the work.

 Thanks again, Publix!

   A very proud big sister.

 She just couldn't wait for him to see it all,
so we let her "announce" that the party was ready for the birthday boy's arrival!
His reaction was just about as perfect as you could imagine.

 A few weeks ago, he got a crash course in the art of blowing out the candles... He saw Sissy do it, and he was sold! He was just so excited to tackle this milestone. It happened almost too quickly. It can be so hard watching our baby boy be so eager to grow up. *cue waves of tears from Mommy's eyes

 I used to love throwing big parties for everyone, but that just doesn't happen anymore. I do love that our small, intimate birthday parties allow them to really taste their cake in their own way... They stick their fingers wherever they please, and their reactions always give us a great giggle.

FROSTING FIGHT!

 Yep, she's definitely mine... The girl loves her buttercream.

We all loved watching him open all of his birthday gifts... He was so excited for his new dump truck and helicopter from Grammy and PawPaw.

And when we brought out his new balance bike, he was so thrilled! He has been begging for rides on his sister's bike for weeks, so we decided to go ahead and get a bike for him too... He loves his "ike-ikle" so much. We also invested in a top-rated helmet to protect that fragile noggin. No more head injuries, if Mommy can help it!

 Thanks for partying with us, Bamba & PawPaw!

Happy, happy 2nd Birthday, Luc!!
We love you very much, and we are so proud of you.

LUCAS | 22 MONTHS

It has been quite some time since I posted an update on this boy... That's right, I said BOY. All traces of baby are virtually gone. He is two months shy of TWO, and I can tell you that part of the reason that I haven't posted is because he keeps his mama very busy!

Favorites.

Book: Little Blue Truck, Hungry Caterpillar, and Dig!
TV Show: Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol, Handy Manny
Food: Green smoothies, carrot souffle, pasta with alfredo, and anything with ranch dressing, BBQ or A1 sauces, and he loves to snack on Nilla wafers and Belvita crackers.
Activities: Doing puzzles, playing with his vehicles, reading, coloring, jumping from high places...
Sights & Sounds: Anything construction-related, especially "diggers" and tractors... Also, he is obsessed with helicopters and airplanes.

daddy's clone. I know his daddy doesn't get very much credit in the looks department, but he and his sister both look so much like him! Luckily, that's where they get their adorable rosy glows and complexion... and those eyebrows too! ;) And as far as his personality goes, it's pretty much all "daddy"

 the two year molars are well on their way... it has been a rough week for him with this teething, so I know we are all ready to move past it!

Trains, planes, and automobiles... Nonstop.

Height & Weight: The month of July was a rough one for us... We were all constantly sick and on antibiotics, and we had two big family emergencies as well. The only bonus to being at the doctor so much was that we got regular updates on their heights and weights... Lucas is now only 8 lbs lighter than Brynn, and 6 inches shorter. He is still a big boy! We also realized that he outgrew all of his shoes, so we took him in for a new pair... And he was a whole size bigger than what he had been wearing! One of his feet is actually a half-size bigger than the other, so we were pretty close to being forced to buy two pairs of shoes to accommodate his clodhoppers, but luckily they were close enough that we could still manage...

Clothes: He is wearing 2T and some 3T things... He is by far the most expensive of the two kiddos so far. I feel like we are buying new clothes and pajamas for him constantly!

Words & Expressions:
Sissa = Sissy
Papou & Baba = Pacifier and blanket
PiePad = iPad
Car-Car = Car or vehicle
Ger-Ger = Digger
Sama Ticter = Cement Mixer
Gy kruck = Fire Truck
Helltata = Helicopter
Titty = Kitty
Gagain! = Again!
Bimba! = Timber!

.... to be continued.

Some of the best times of my life have been staying at home with this guy... He is just your average sweet-natured, mama's boy. Always clinging to me, plenty of  hugs and kisses, and he can barely stand to be separated, whether it's by doors, baby gates, or distance...  Unlike his very independent and strong-willed big sister.
He is usually very well behaved, but he likes to sneak into his sister's room and steal her coveted writing utensils and paper. He loves to write and color. I think most of his interest stems from the fact that it's something that he can do with his beloved Sissa...

Happy 22 Months, Lucas
We are so loving watching you grow into boyhood.

LUCAS | 15 MONTHS

Missing: Baby boy. Goes by Lucas. Mother is desperately searching for him, after she found a toddler boy in his crib while getting him up from his latest nap.

No, but seriously... How did this happen? Wasn't this supposed to last longer than the hot second that it did? I mean, is it not okay to ask that they never, ever, ever grow up?

Or how about these little baby bugs from this time last year?

Nevertheless, here I am... Getting ready to document all things about my 15 month-old little boy these days. I'm a little rusty with the camera, since I hardly have time to pick it up anymore. Hopefully, I'll have time to do another post with both of them for Valentines Day again this year. :)

Height & Weight: This boy is the picture of health-- in terms of healthy eating and all that goes with that. He is tipping the scales at 28lbs, 11oz (93rd percentile), and measuring 32.5 inches (87th percentile -- tall like Daddy). His favorite foods are banana+avocado sandwich rolls, pasta with alfredo sauce, carrot souffle, and he will even drink the green smoothies that I make for him! He practically stole my kalicious smoothie right out of my hands in the checkout at Whole Foods the other day... and then had a little tantrum when we had to pass it off to the cashier for those extremely long and traumatic three seconds.

Sleep: We are still thinking about transitioning to one nap. He's not quite sure if he's ready to commit... I try very hard to keep him awake into the afternoon, but he's usually about to go out of his mind at 10am-- which means that I'm about to go out of my mind too. He will not go to bed any later than 7pm still, but he still sleeps for 12 hours through the night. The past week has been rough due to the arrival of his molars, but it usually doesn't warrant us going into his room at night. He will wake and fuss for a minute and then find his pacifier and blanket and soothe himself back to sleep fairly easily.

Lo and behold, this is his "Hey, Mom. Watch this!" look...
 ... and then he decides to walk up the wall behind him. Spidey-style.
Never a dull moment.

Diet: He is getting more picky these days, but he's sticking with most of his healthy favorites. He is developing more of a sweet tooth, but I love that he enjoys a green smoothie as much as a cookie. He is not too big on fruit, except for bananas. He is more of a vegetable guy, which is great, but I do wish he were into the same fruit that Brynn loves-- grapes, apples, and pineapple. Brynn is not a vegetable lover at all, so the combination of the two makes for a produce-packed refrigerator. They both loooooove their yogurt, and we recently discovered belVita Bites (mixed berry), which were a big hit with both.

Clothes: Well, it's mostly 24 months or 2T stuff around here. Not much has changed.

My attempt to catch him "jumping" on the bed.
He likes to say "jump, jump, jump!" as he bobs his little head. Cutest thing ever.

.... and then this is what it looks like when I inform him that he will NOT be
jumping off of the side of the bed from a standing position. Twice.

Death by drama. And it shall read on his tombstone, "Because my mom told me 'No'..."

Comparison to Big Sis:
Oh, 15 months. The age of independence. It's bittersweet.
B was 21 lbs, 4 oz. She was wearing 18 month clothes and size 4 shoes.
Lucas is wearing size 6 shoes. Ha!
B's vocabulary was a little more advanced, but I think Luc is really starting to catch up.
Lucas still only has 6 teeth - 4 on top and 2 on bottom.

Peekaboo!
His favorite game during bedtime, because he knows he can make us laugh every time.
He is such a joker, like his daddy.

Luc's Likes: Cooking with Mommy or Daddy, climbing (he has managed to figure out how to climb up on the guest bed in the playroom via the Hope chest at the end. Uuuuuuggggghhhh.), possessing the remote control, watching the mowers, Little Einsteins, taking baths, his passy and blankie, being chased, playing in his Sissa's room, FaceTiming or talking on the phone with people, waving and yelling "Hi!" to every elderly person in the grocery store, pushing the buttons on the humidifier or the space heater- or any button that he can find, and banging his head on everything within 5 feet of him.

Dislikes: Being told No. Diaper changes.

Happy 15 months, sweet Luc.
We love all of the adventure you have brought to our lives...

LUCAS | 14 MONTHS OLD

I can hardly believe that our boy is growing as fast as he is. What a difference these last few months have made... His momma can hardly keep up anymore! Hence the reason there was no 13 month post.

 Catch Up | Lucas at 13 months.

 Such a big boy!
... and so much like his daddy, more in personality than looks ;)

Height & Weight: Not sure of stats right now, but he is currently coming up to his sister's shoulder blades--- and his sister is in the 76th percentile in height for HER age! He definitely got the Weinzapfel body length, so he has a 99.9% chance of being over 6 feet tall by his high school years. ;)

Sleep: Ever the fabulous sleeper-- He's still going about 12 hours every night. He is also still taking 2 naps every day, but he's starting to give one up.

Diet: Anything and everything. There isn't much this kid won't eat, which is fabulous because Brynn is on the picky side with her food. His favorites are banana'cado "sushi" or toast, pasta with alfredo sauce and shredded mozzarella, carrot souffle (Weelicious recipe is super easy), white bean mashed potatoes, and sauteed zucchini bites. He will eat ANYTHING with cheese on it.

Clothes: This boy is wearing 24 month and 2T stuff already... At 14 months old!! I certainly don't get too attached to clothing anymore because he has outgrown everything so quickly. Luckily, we know two adorable little boys in Ponte Vedra who will be glad to have lightly worn clothes. ;)

 ... that smile is not even fair!

Comparison to Big Sis:

 Honestly, there isn't much of a comparison anymore... They are just so different.
 Different builds, different personalities, different worlds.
B is as girly of a girl as you can get, while Lucas is ALL boy (although he does like to throw the occasional tiara on... Shhh! Don't tell.)  They do manage to get along fairly well, even though Brynn is quite bossy around here. Of course, Lucas has discovered that he can be as independent as he wants to be... They will butt heads over your typical sibling things- like sharing toys and invasion of personal spaces. Brynn is such a big helper and protector of her baby brother, though. There isn't much that goes on with him that I don't know about. She knows that he is, under no conditions, allowed to have small objects, eat paper or stickers of any kind, pull down decorations, or go into her room-- So, I will frequently hear, "Mooooommmm!! Lucas is (fill in offense requiring intervention)!"-- then I'll hear-- in the sweetest little maternal "baby-talk" voice that she does-- "No, No, Bubby. You just can't have this because you are too little right now." At which point, I know she takes it from him because I hear a blood-curdling scream. Haha. Siblings are so much fun!

Lucas' Likes: COOKING! This boy demands to be in the kitchen if there is anything on the stove or being prepared. He loves his kitchen gadgets, just like Daddy! He can flip pancakes with the best of them already! He also enjoys --- playing "Light Wars" with his sister-- he turns them on, and she turns them back off. They think it's hilarious. ; eating, playing with blocks or his trucks, dancing (a frequent activity at our house, no doubt), anything Mickey Mouse, snuggling with pillows or blankets, and pretty much anything his sister is doing...

Dislikes: Being told, "No." or that he can't do something... Yep, that's pretty much it. Actually, he's still not the biggest fan of his car seat. We've had some major issues with car sickness lately... Still trying to get that figured out, but it explains why the "car seat" has been on his list of dislikes since the beginning... He obviously suffers from severe motion sickness. We're already making a few changes so that we don't have to clean out backseats full of vomit anymore, but any suggestions are appreciated!

Latest Linguistics: His list of words is growing by the day! Most of the time, he can repeat a word once or twice, but he won't attempt it again after that... These are the words that he says regularly, usually without any prompting.

Daddy = Daddee or DaDa
Bath = Baff
Santa = Saaaan-Ta
Sissy = Sissa or Issy
Mommy = NaNa (but he usually just grunts and points at me)
 Oz = Oooosszzzz
Bottle = BaaaaaT

He can do a few animal sounds too, like
Raaaawwwrrrr (lion)
Baaaaah (sheep)
Oooh-Oooh-Ahhh-Aaah! (monkey)
Meooooow (cat)

Happy 14 months, Lucas Wilson Weinzapfel.
You light up our lives in every possible way, sweet boy!
