the caterpillar project

A few weeks ago, we received a very special gift from the Warner family. They sent us a live caterpillar kit in the mail so that Brynn could witness nature's magic firsthand.
I just have to say that we have had so much fun with this experience... It has been thrilling and magical, and Brynn was completely entranced in watching the transformation of these Painted Lady caterpillars. If you are interested, you can find your own kit at Insect Lore.

Of course, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a video of our experiences...
Thanks again, Warner family. We are so grateful for your kindness, and can't wait to return the favor.

.... Oh, and stayed tuned at the end for your daily dose of Brynn's kooky personality. (on a side note, please tell me other 3 year-olds act this way...)

Insta-Friday

There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing the unconditional love of a child.

  Here's what life with a toddler looked like this week...
A few of my favorite moments with our B

My little flower behead-er
We have been outside enjoying this fabulous summer-esque weather almost every day this week... And she has discovered a deep fascination with all flowers, even the dandelion weeds that grow in our lawn.

She loves to help Mommy tune up the landscaping...
Which usually involves her new watering can!
{this was only the umpteenth time these daffodils were watered that day}

Cute Little Bed Bug
With all of the flowers, comes allergies... Or at least is does for me, and apparently for B as well. :(
She ended up in our bed for about an hour the other night because she just couldn't get comfortable with her congestion. As an RT, I know that 17 month-olds aren't technically supposed to have "seasonal allergies," but I can attest that my child does.

One of B's Easter gifts... Her first trike!
It definitely looks a lot more overwhelming than it really was.

{M and B with the jaguar}
 FYI: those bars are also surrounded by thick Lexan

We took a trip to Mesker Park Zoo with Miles-Man to see Dora and Diego!!
They had so much fun experiencing all of the animals too... With Uncle Aaron, Yay-Yay, and Grammy along for the ride!

{watching the river otters swim}
She would follow "My" {Miles} to the ends of the earth...

"Um, Dora... Your eyes look a little funny."
I was totally sympathetic to whomever was inside "Dora" and "Diego"... It was over 80 degrees outside.

Oh, how I love surprises...
{i.e. scattering baby wipes everywhere! the perpetrator is top-center... in the purple}

Meet my new cleaning lady... She's a BIG help!

I love watching B care for her "baby"... It makes Mommy feel like she's a pretty good example :)

My 1st Goose-Egg
 This is what my fast-flying fairy got last night when she was running without watching where she was headed. :( Don't you just hate those moments when you know what's about to happen, but you're powerless to stop it? Sigh.

As for B's separation anxiety issues... I'm very happy to report that they have almost been completely resolved. I've been reading up on the issue, and made a few changes to our daily routine, plus added a brighter night light to her room... And she is much happier to go to bed now! Well, maybe not happy... But, thankfully, we're not taking turns to go into her nursery every 5-10 minutes anymore because of her hysterics!

This photo was snapped during one of our bed checks Wednesday night.
She literally fell asleep standing up!!
After we snapped a quick photo, Mommy laid her down and she happily succumbed to horizontal slumber :)

I hope you all had a great week! Can't wait to see your photos.

Jacksonville Zoo

Jacksonville Zoo was pretty amazing!
We had some really great views of most of the animals, and I loved how much fun B had running around and experiencing the zoo like every toddler should! :)

Plus, we were with Nick and Roz, which makes any trip a lot more fun! :)

Over the trip, B's molars decided that it would be a fabulous time to make their debut... Of course!!
She definitely wasn't quite "herself," but she was still our little trooper!

Taking a closer look at this guy...

Showing Auntie Roz a little love!

Reptiles.
Allen has always been obsessed with them, and unfortunately, B is very much her father's daughter when it comes to his affinity for creepy, crawling, slithering yuckiness... As you can tell, she doesn't get it from me.

Alligator Park
{Allen's favorite part of the zoo}

Nothing entertains better than chasing a good ol' Florida lizard.

I truly debated whether to post these photos, because I still can't look at them without a little shiver going up my spine... However, it goes with the story about Daddy and B's love for the creepy-crawlies.

This guy isn't just any snake...
He's a 5 foot-long rattlesnake, who B decided would make a fabulous new playmate!!!

Unbelievable... Mommy was definitely checking the thickness of that window!

Doesn't this give you the heeby-jeebies too?
I'm sure these are photos that she will look back to and wonder what her crazy parents were thinking... :)

Oh, she is so much like her daddy sometimes! :)

Of course, with her molars barreling right through, B didn't get the best sleep over most of our vacation... So, she was taking an extra short nap on most days. She was a little sleepy during our morning adventures, but got pretty excited after her giraffe experience! :)

Luckily, we stumbled onto the giraffes during their feeding session... And since it was $2 Tuesday at the zoo, everything was $2 (including admission)! That was definitely a small price to pay for such a big smile! :)
B loved it!

We took a little snack break after that, and decided to take advantage of a photo op :)
I just love Auntie Roz's bump!! We are so excited for Amelia's arrival!

We set out after that and saw the gorillas, jaguar, and sea otters.

B (and Daddy) thought the otters were really fun! :)

This is a Chilean Pudu (tiny deer), but B couldn't stop calling him "Cat."
I, personally, would have gone with "Dog"... But we'll go with it!

It was lunch time for the flamingos!

Our independent girl was ready to see the sights away from her stroller!

My cute little reptile lovers :)

Daddy was really proud of this shot...

The Zoo Crew

By this time, B was ready to take a little napparoo...

We all were definitely a little tuckered out, so we hopped on the train back to the entrance! :)

B is just the perfect age for all of the fun at the zoo!
So glad that we could take advantage of the AMAZING weather for for another zoo adventure!
Thanks Uncle Nick and Auntie Roz!! We love you and miss you so much!

A Day at the Zoo

We thought it would be a great day to go to Mesker Park Zoo today... So we did! :)
And B loved it...

Here are some photos and videos from B's first day at the zoo!
{courtesy of Allen's iPhone}

Watching the tortoise sunbathe.
{background noise involves a little girl yelling at her brother to not "be rude" and walk in front of us... Hence, me saying, "It's okay" at the end.}

Miniature horses and goats.

Lions, tigers, and {no} bears... OH MY!

B loved to "meow" with the tiger...

Photo fun with Daddy! :)

Mr. Lion was thirsty...

 The otters were her favorite... She loved to watch them swim!

 We met a lot of friendly peacocks...
B loved them!

Waving at the giraffes

 {the tarantula was more for Daddy}

 Posing with Mommy and Daddy...

Waving to the jaguar

Worn out from all of the fun at the zoo!

I hope you all had as much fun as we did this weekend! :)
