Halloween - Florida-Style + The Beginning of Lucas' Birth Story...

I realize that the title of this post is very interesting, but the truth is that we can't really tell the story of Brynn's 1st Florida Halloween without starting L's Birth Story...

Needless to say, Halloween was quite a chaotic time for us... So, you'll have to forgive the fact that this post is overdue by more than a month. The facts are that it was the same day as my last prenatal appointment, I went into labor late that evening, and we were in the hospital the next morning welcoming Lucas into our family... But we still managed to rock out some trick-or-treating!

With all of that craziness going on, I completely forgot about these photos until I printed some photos off for Grammy to take home to family members. I definitely wanted to share Brynn's first Florida Halloween experience... For starters, she could have worn whatever costume her heart desired this year because it was in the low 80s, which I totally loved!! We definitely weren't running around freezing our toes off this year, trying to give her the Halloween experience that we wanted her to have... She wanted to be a "princess" this year, so we went with Cinderella, because I had the perfect dress for the costume. Thank goodness that Grammy is such a hoarder, because this dress was quite the hit! It was a dress that I wore as a flower girl almost 30 years ago, so we were pretty sure no one would have the same costume as our girl... We got plenty of points on originality and cuteness!

Here is the breakdown of our evening, which happened to be Brynn's last evening, and also last holiday, as an only child.

Meet Cinderella Brynn.

That morning, we had what would be our last prenatal appointment, and I had promised all of the girls in the office that I would bring Brynn in her Halloween costume... The girls just love how "social" (i.e. extremely loud and full of really intrusive questions) she is with them when we are there, so they loved to oooooh and ahhhhh over her being all dressed up, and Brynn was flaunting it the entire time we were there... ("See my glass slippers?" "I'm soooo beautiful." and "Fank you, I know..." were all said very frequently. I learned that my child is not of the modest variety...)

under her own "sleeping spell"... if only she could do that during nap time.

the sleeping spell didn't last long... she was up and running in no time!

At the appointment, I was more than a little surprised when the NP decided to strip my membranes while doing my "check", without any warning or consultation... Little did I know, that would be quite fateful in how the next 24 hours unfolded.

That evening, we planned out which houses we wanted to hit up in our neighborhood, and got everything ready for the kiddos that would show up at our door... Brynn was more than ready to start the festivities. I was in almost-constant pain from the earlier experience at our appointment, but I was not about to admit that to anyone... Especially myself. So, I put on my brave face and we went out trick or treating with our girl.

In true "Brynn" fashion, she insisted on knocking on every door (even after we rang the doorbell... she's a little persistent when it comes to people handing over candy without a fight), and she tried to walk into everyone's house again this year...Gah! I have no idea how to cure her of this habit...

officially, the last bump photo... at this point, I was having mild, irregular contractions.

The rest of the evening, I was pretty much lying on the couch in an uncomfortable state... And Allen and Brynn took care of all of the Halloweeners that rang the doorbell. Brynn was in paradise, with kiddos in costumes ringing our doorbell all night... She probably would have chased every one of them back to the sidewalk if we had let her! :) Such a social butterfly we have...

... and that was basically our Halloween! Stay tuned for more of Lucas' Birth Story...
