the proposal... link up your proposal story or photo!

I was totally inspired by Natalie from Mommy of a Monster and Twins and her Down the Aisle link-up...
This time, I thought it would be fun to share your favorite photo(s) or
story from the day your husband (or fiance) proposed...

I know a lot of people may not have photos, but I would love to hear your story :)

the proposal

[This is also my first link party, so feel free to
let me know if something isn't working, etc]

Here is our story.

WHEN: September 30, 2006
WHERE: Cathedral Labyrinth, New Harmony, IN

He totally caught me by surprise {even after 4 years of waiting}, and suggested we take a tour around New Harmony together before we had dinner with my family at the Red Geranium. We pulled up to the labyrinth, and I saw candles and rose petals lining the fountain and path...

I immediately assumed he was going to propose, but as we were walking up, he threw me for a loop and said "Happy Birthday, babe." {my birthday was 3 days later...}
He still laughs at the fact that my shoulders immediately dropped, and before I could even attempt to hide my utter despair that this was a birthday present (and not the proposal that I had been patiently waiting for), I let out a very surprised {and disappointed} "Oh."

To further hide my disappointment, I gave him a kiss and started meaningfully checking out all of the things on the fountain... The bouquet of flowers, the bottle of champagne {and flutes from Roz}.
When I turned back around, he was on one knee with tears in his eyes...
The rest is a complete blur, but I still remember the adrenaline pumping directly to my heart as reality set in... I think I was temporarily deaf, because I can't even remember what he said.
I just remember telling him to get up and kiss me!! :)

Ring Shot
What makes it even more special is that he used the diamond from one of my grandfather's rings to be the center stone! :) My grandfather passed away in 2003, so it was very sweet...

Of course, it turns out that he had this all planned for months and kept it a secret from me {which is nearly impossible for him to do, since he can't even buy me a gift without blabbing to me what it is within hours of purchase!}
My sister-in-law, Amanda and my mom were both in on it... My bestie, Roz was in on it...
Okay, everyone knew except me-- which is usually how it should be, but I can be the ultimate detective.

How about YOU?
Did you know before he proposed? If so, when did you know?
Feel free to share your perfect proposal story!

What a great engagement story and linky! I am hoping to link up later. LOL I had the same feeling of disappointment for mine too b/c I thought it was just an anniversary night...not engagement night. LOL he tricked me!
